Greetings,
It is a genuine honor for me to have the opportunity to serve as your AFA state president. I view my job in this role as one of assisting the Chapters and area VPs any way I can to increase our membership, and our outreach, particularly into those segments of the Texas population which have little contact with the military. We have seen many references recently to the small percentage of Congressional representatives who have previous military service, and this is a concern. However, it is a reflection of a larger concern in the country as a whole. After over a quarter century of the all-volunteer force, and over a decade of significant downsizing of the force, fewer and fewer average Americans have any significant connection to the military, and with the passing of the WW II generation, that situation will get more acute.
It is our responsibility to get the message out, particularly to those audiences we have traditionally referred to as "non-choir". We need to find ways to bring many of those folks "into the choir". We can do this through increasing our visibility at civic clubs, local high schools and colleges, and through our Aerospace Education programs. I urge each Chapter to build a program to get out into these forums and help us educate America. We need to be certain the choices made by the voters are informed ones.
We have two alternatives, we can sit back and wait for things to happen and then try to react, or we can go out and make things happen. Please join me in choosing the latter alternative.

Very Respectfully,

David A. Dietsch
